Brits win eventing gold at the WEGs, Canada win silver!

10 October 2010

William Fox-Pitt, Mary King, Nicola Watson and Tina Cook were 4th after the dressage phase and went into the lead after impressive performances over a very tough cross country course.  The Americans were a close second followed by a very impressive team of Canadians.  The Brits had only one rail in hand going into the show jumping.  The Canadian and New Zealand teams piled on the pressure with cool performances and plenty of clear rounds.  With the end in sight the Americans felt the pressure and with an uncharacteristic rail from Phillip Dutton and Woodburn and then a stop and rail from Karen O'Connor the Canadians William Fox-Pitt had the round of his life on Cool Mountain to secure gold for Britain.  The Canadians showed the world that they are strong contenders for 2012 with cass performances from start to finish.  Their last medal in the World Championships was in 1978.  The Kiwis took home the bronze.
